Restoration and refit of The Wonky House - Rochester High Street.
Approaching a cohesive design for this property was challenging. Brought at auction it was in a very tired state but from the moment you walked into it it was like an adventure. At every corner and at every turn there was a quirk, a relic of the past or a curiosity. This house had lived through so many changes and now it was its' turn to shine.
My clients had a specific intention for the property, to add to their portfolio... As keen collectors they had also had a range of Merrow furniture, held in storage. They asked if i could use it for this refit and I said 'Yes'... oh and by the way he had had the dining chair's recovered in vintage underground fabric. An obvious mix 😳
(Merrow - Iconic British furniture c1960's Famous for clean lines and Chrome detail.)
This is a property that has provided shelter to people for so many years, and I wanted to keep the theme of warmth, coziness, and feeling enveloped. To keep the delight of when I first entered the property alive for each and every visitor, and yet balance that out with the practicalities of easy maintenance and all the mod cons we expect when we rent a holiday home.
It was a joy to be part of the team that brought this property back to life. It is ready to face its future secured... if still 'wonky' with its shiny new outlook but retaining its obvious charms. I hope that one day you get to experience a night or two in there and see for yourself.
